London Organic Skyscraper
Shoreditch is a dynamic part of London situated North of the City´s business clean cut domain and also close to the more buzzing and vibrant Brick Lane, Whitechapel and various street markets. This skyscraper is as much to do with having a new anchoring landmark for the area as it is to do about a group of smaller buildings that programmatically address the context around it.
The skyscraper is positioned in the centre of the site and the core of the programmatic demands are distributed amongst its floors. These would include the technology, financial and legal zones. The rest of the programs from the brief would be situated on the lower levels of this project and more specifically in four lower level buildings which can be accessed by the public and enjoyed by them in the same way that they enjoy this vibrant neighbourhood. These four buildings are elevated from the ground floor via stilts or ramps in order to give this new landscaped public space to the community for temporary habitation and easy circulation between Shoreditch High Street and Great Eastern Street. And so these four buildings root the skyscraper to the buzzing Shoreditch context giving its inhabitants and also the office workers of the tower activities of leisure, relaxation, education and entertainment. Many of the spaces in these four buildings can be used by those going to a lecture, workshop, to watch a film or enjoy a dip in the pool.
The office worker will walk past many of these spaces and absorb the landscape of small sculptures, water plains, greenery and fountains and arriving at their desk with a more refreshed and uplifting experience.
